An honest to goodness play about vibrators at Woolly Mammoth Theatre

In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play

By Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Aaron Posner

August 23rd - September 19th

At the dawn of the electrical age, a new medical device is developed to pacify hysterical women, but it produces a shockingly different result. Pulitzer Prize-finalist Sarah Ruhl, creator of Dead Man's Cell Phone and The Clean House, returns to Woolly with a richly textured comedy about marriage, motherhood, and the charged energy between our bodies.

This Pulitzer Prize-finalist is "a spiritual and stimulating new comedy from one of the country's brightest young playwrights." - New York Times

In the Next Room, or the vibrator play kicks off Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company's 31st season: A Striptease of Your Subconscious. Each play samples a different flavor of American civilization-and its most uncivilized desires. From the fetish for youth and beauty to obsessions with sex and race, these shows confront what society represses and reveals.

Single tickets for the remainder of the season, season subscriptions, and tickets for In the Next Room are now available
