Venue Guru hosts a Johnson's Girl Talk Cause Party in support of GEMS
As part of JOHNSON’S® “Girl Talk Cause Party” Program, I was invited to host a small gathering of local ladies in support of a worthy cause. In an effort to build awareness and help women make a difference in their communities, JOHNSON’S® invited bloggers from all over to host charity events in support of an organization of their choice.
I chose to support Girls Educational and Mentoring Services (GEMS), an organization dedicated to ending the commercial exploitation and trafficking of children. They provide services specifically designed for girls and young women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking. I’ve been following them on Facebook and they’re doing wonderful things for women and girls in need.
A very lovely group of ladies joined me at one of my new favorite spots in Silver Spring, 8407 Kitchen Bar. They have the cutest little lounge and bar area. In a fun mix of rustic and modern; sea foam lounge seating, plush geometric patterned pillows, and funky marble topped cocktail tables pop against brick walls and exposed beams.
I provided a selection of appetizers from 8407’s farm fresh menu and they also served up a plate of complimentary beignets that I just couldn’t stop eating.
The ladies and I chatted about GEMS and the issue of Human Trafficking in general. Most importantly, we talked about being more active and being inspired to support other causes that can help make a difference in our communities. I have a feeling that some of them will be hosting their own cause parties in the very near future.
Everyone, including our super accommodating bartender, walked away with gift bags featuring full sized JOHNSON’S® Baby Oil products and more information on how to support GEMS. All attendees that texted donations of $10 or contributed onsite were entered into a raffle. Two lucky guests walked away with a 4 pack of passes to the Spy Museum and a $25 gift card to Maggiano’s.
Even before the event was over, the ladies were already tweeting and posting about the party and GEMS. We raised over $100 and I’ll also be contributing Johnson's products to GEMS’ as an in-kind donation.
