Two New Spots to Check Out This Weekend!

Here are two new places you may want to stop by this weekend. These delectable destinations opened up earlier this month and, based on these reviews courtesy of TheListAreYouOnIt.Com, DC has just added two worthy competitors to the ever growing foodie scene. Enjoy!

La Cabana Restaurante - The team behind La Placitas Restaurante and La Villa Restaurante has opened La Cabana near the Columbia Heights Metro. Open Monday thru Friday for lunch and dinner and Saturday and Sunday for dinner. Expect a wide variety of Mexican and Salvadorean specialties, including pupusas, chimichangas and fajitas. The cantina serves a variety of Mexican and Salvadorean beers, as well as sangrias and margaritas. (3614 14th Street, NW; 202.726.1334)

CommonWealth - Chef/Partner Jamie Leeds (see this issue's Chef's Column) and Operating Partner Sandy Lewis will open CommonWealth on August 6th in Columbia Heights. CommonWealth is a chef-driven, British gastropub-inspired restaurant (think public house atmosphere and hustle-bustle.) The menu offers British modern classics, with Chef Leeds lightening up traditional British fair with fresh local ingredients and modern cooking techniques. The menu will include such treats as potted shrimp, Scotch eggs, "toad in a hole," fish 'n chips, and bangers and mash. Open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, CommonWealth honors the British tradition of the weekly, Sunday roast. The roast is the British Sunday afternoon supper, featuring a selection of roasted meat with accompanying sides. The pub area incorporates board games, such as checkers, backgammon and chess and even is open for late night snacks. CommonWealth also features an extensive beer list with a focus on American microbrews and top quality beers from the United Kingdom. The wine list will be international, with a food friendly and value-oriented selection. (Highland Park Building at 14th & Irving Streets, NW)
