FOTOWEEK DC- November 15-22nd

I've always been a big fan of art in all its many forms. While I probably can't hold a two hour long conversation using lots of technical jargon, I like to believe I have an eye for beautiful or just plain interesting things. Photography is one of my favorites because of its ability to be shocking and awe inspiring while still remaining accessible and real. As an event planner I've certainly worked with my share of photographers and have grown to appreciate the talent that goes into capturing images that tell a story. This month, DC's art community will join together in recognition and celebration of this art form with over 100 FREE events from November 15-22nd.

The week of November 15-22, 2008 will mark the launch of FotoWeek DC, the first annual gathering of a diverse and wide-ranging photography community in the nation’s capital, including photographers, museums, universities and all those involved in the profession across the metro D.C. area, including Virginia and Maryland. Unique among American cities, Washington, D.C. is a nexus of artistic, business, political and public sector energy, in which photography plays an integral role. FotoWeek DC seeks to bring together all photographers and imaging professionals from every discipline to join with the public in celebration of the medium.

The week will culminate with a gala evening at the National Geographic Society on Saturday, November 22, 2008. While the gala will cost you $85 per ticket, registration for the over 100 book signings, panel discussions, exhibitions, lectures, and award ceremonies is FREE!
